Boarding is an important part of life at Melbourne Grammar School, and the advantages of boarding are numerous. The friendships made in the boarding environment are strong and long lasting, the boarders’ proximity to the School’s facilities helps them fully appreciate all the School has to offer and Melbourne Grammar School’s location offers boarders an unrivalled quality of life.
The boarding precinct centres on three graceful Victorian houses overlooking the Royal Botanic Gardens. Current boarding facilities opened in 1998, and they provide modern, purpose-built student accommodation – a home away from home to 120 boys from Years 7 to 12; Creswick House for Years 7 and 8 and Perry and School Houses for boys in Years 9 to 12.
Boarding at Melbourne Grammar School provides a warm, friendly environment where teamwork and communication are important and where resident staff and students work together to create an environment where all boys can live happily and achieve their best.

Continual access to School resources and tutors on hand are huge advantages for boarders. In addition, the registered nursing staff at our fully equipped health centre are an important part of our pastoral care team.
Boarding has catered for many generations of students from all over Australia and the world over the years. Students have boarded at Melbourne Grammar School since its foundation in 1858, and many second and third generation boarders currently reside in the three boarding houses. Boys come from the outer suburbs of Melbourne, Victorian provincial cities, country Victoria, interstate and overseas.
Boarding is a lifestyle that encourages personal development, and even those boys who feel homesick in Term I would testify to the positive attributes of boarding once they have settled into a busy and rewarding routine. Boys interact with their peers 24 hours a day, generating an understanding and tolerance for others. Combined with the resident adult staff and school pastoral groups, the boarding house has a vibrant community atmosphere that quickly becomes the boys’ second home.
A number of boarding scholarships are available. Please click here for more information.
