Composer in the classroom Internationally acclaimed composer, musician and educator Gillian Howell is going back to school as Melbourne Grammar School’s Composer in Residence at Grimwade House during Term I. Gillian is combining her skills to create and develop original compositions with students. The compositions will feature various instruments including cello, clarinet, violin, piano, flute and trombone. The program run by Musica Viva in Schools will culminate in a student performance featuring 32 students from Years 4, 5 and 6. Melbourne Grammar’s coeducational primary school Grimwade House has a strong musical program with all primary students studying music as a core subject and all Year 2 students learning a string instrument. “This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to work with and learn from an internationally renowned composer to create an original and creative composition,” said Head of Melbourne Grammar’s Grimwade House Andrew Boyd.
