Students and teachers shave heads for charity Fifty Melbourne Grammar School students and teachers have raised close to $10,000 by shaving their heads for the children’s charity, Make-A-Wish Foundation. Student hairdressers from the Australian College of Hair Design and Beauty set up a temporary barber shop in the school grounds on the last day of second term (Friday 16 June 2006) and provided students and teachers with anything from a number 1 to a number 6 cut. Year 7 and 8 students and teachers hold this event to raise awareness of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and to raise money for sick children. The Make-A-Wish Foundation spreads joy to children and young people with life-threatening illnesses by granting their most cherished wishes. “This is the third year that the students and staff of Melbourne Grammar’s Year 7 and 8 Wadhurst campus have held 'Crop A Kid Day' in support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation,” said Head of Wadhurst Mr Wilhelm . “This is a great opportunity for both students and teachers to develop an understanding and empathy for community issues and help other children,” said Melbourne Grammar School Headmaster Paul Sheahan. Each student who had his head shaved received a beanie donated from Snowgum. Return to news index
