SENIOR SCHOOLEXTENDED EDUCATION

Extended and Varied Education: A New Paradigm

Young people growing up today will live in a world which is less predictable than in previous generations. They must prepare for a future characterised by change, flexibility, internationalism, technological advances, longer lives and employment in jobs that don't yet exist.

Melbourne Grammar School staff have fashioned a curriculum with a careful eye to this future while remaining acutely aware of the past academic rigour that has framed it. It has been developed in line with Victorian Essential Learning Standards, Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority benchmarks and frequent professional learning activities. We embrace a national and international perspective.

Our staff see teaching and learning as a partnership between students and teachers in a climate which values the individual. Recognising the different ways to learn or be successful, our programs provide the frameworks for each student to achieve his full potential. As they progress through the School, boys are given opportunities to learn more about their emotional intelligence, their capacity to think, values, the importance of collaborative learning, leadership and other interdisciplinary skills for successful adulthood.

Increasingly, we take them into the natural environment and our rich, wider community to learn in real-life situations. We make excellent use of our many partnerships with community organisations and businesses. In and outside the School, teaching and learning are supported by a mobile computing program where all students from Years 5 to 12 use notebook computers.

We have over 45 studies on offer in the final years and an enviable reputation for academic rigour leading to outstanding success at tertiary level. Melbourne Grammar School's curriculum provides a breadth, depth and vision which looks to the future while valuing a strong tradition of scholarship. Our students are prepared for a lifetime of learning.
